What is Go Red for Women?

Go Red for Women is an initiative, started by the American Heart Association in 2004. Heart Disease and stroke (cardiovascular disease) is the
Number 1 killer of women worldwide, yet many women remain unaware of this fact. The Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) adopted the Go Red
for Women campaign in 2005. We want women in Singapore to recognise and reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease and know that cardiovascular disease can be prevented. In Singapore, heart disease and stroke affects 1 in 3 Singaporean women. Heart disease and stroke accounts for 31.4% of
deaths in women and 32.5% in men. Yet awareness of this issue remains low.
Thus, this initiative aims to raise awareness and empower women to take charge of their heart health.

What is the goal of Go Red for Women?

Go Red for Women encourages awareness of the issue of heart disease and stroke in women. We also want to encourage women to be proactive
in taking care of their hearts. This movement hopes to harness the energy and passion of women in working together to reduce and eliminate heart disease.
The campaign also challenges women to know their risk for heart disease and stroke, and take action to reduce their personal risk in order to lead a
heart-healthy life.

Heart Disease in Singapore

Out of the many different kinds of chronic diseases out there, heart disease and stroke (cardiovascular disease) is the number one killer of women worldwide. Despite it being one of the main reasons behind deaths, people are still no aware of its severity. It is important that everyone is aware of the risks factors and take precautionary measurements to prevent it. In Singapore, heart disease and stroke affects 1 in 3 Singaporean women. All of this accounts for 31.4% of deaths in women and 32.5% in men. Hence, early disease prevention needs to start gaining traction.
