The Refreshing Plot: Doctor on the Edge

Adapted from Kim Tae-pung’s beloved webtoon Doctor Jonbeo, the series takes a witty look at South Korea’s mandatory military service through a privileged loophole. Elite plastic surgeon Do Ji-ui (Lee Jae-wook) thinks he’s getting off easy by fulfilling his duty as a public health doctor—until he gets assigned to Pyeondong-do, a chaotic, isolated island that every doctor actively avoids. To make matters worse, Ji-ui is secretly paralyzed by a profound fear of the sea, making this pristine island feel like a literal prison sentence.

Surrounded by endless medical emergencies and unpredictable locals, his only anchor is Yook Ha-ri (Shin Ye-eun), a brilliant city nurse who fled to the island to bury her own secrets. Whenever the waves roar and Ji-ui’s trauma threatens to break him, Ha-ri mysteriously appears by his side. Directed by hitmaker Lee Myung-woo and written by Kim Ji-soo, this beautiful, slow-burn “will-they-wont-they” romance promises to be the perfect blend of emotional healing, witty banter, and pure comfort food.
