Met Gala often known as the “fashion’s biggest night” and attended by the top-tier celebrities and industries representatives. This year, Met Gala 2026 return with a more artistical theme, “Costume Art”.

What Is Met Gala?
The Met Gala is not just another red carpet event — it is fashion’s most anticipated night of the year. Held annually at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the glamorous charity fundraiser marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s yearly fashion exhibition.
What makes the Met Gala so iconic is its theme. Every year, celebrities, designers, models, and cultural icons interpret the dress code in their own creative way, turning the famous Met steps into a live fashion fantasy. From dramatic couture gowns to viral style moments, the Met Gala is where fashion, art, celebrity, and storytelling come together in the most spectacular way.

The Theme Vs. Dress Code
- Theme: The 2026 Met Gala theme is “Costume Art.” It explores the relationship between fashion and the dressed body. More importantly, it shows how clothing can be more than something we wear. Instead, fashion can become a form of art, sculpture, and creative expression.
- Dress Code: Meanwhile, the official dress code is “Fashion Is Art.” It encourages guests to view fashion through an artistic lens. For example, celebrities may take inspiration from painting, sculpture, or art history. As a result, we can expect looks that feel expressive, imaginative, and museum-worthy.
Themes Throwback

In recent years, the Met Gala has continued to follow themes inspired by The Costume Institute’s annual exhibitions. For instance, in 2025, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” celebrated Black style through tailoring, while 2024’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” explored the beauty of historical fashion.
Meanwhile, 2023 honored Karl Lagerfeld with “A Line of Beauty.” Before that, the 2022 and 2021 editions turned the spotlight to American fashion through “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” and “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” Together, these themes show how the Met Gala continues to connect fashion, culture, and the red carpet in a fresh way!
