The RE49 NEWROAD SAIL is a casual street sneaker made from recycled and regenerated sails, boat canopies or awnings. The insole and lining are made from soft, super-comfortable recycled microfiber or cotton towels recovered from hotels. The two-tone sole made from recycled tires gives our sneakers a modern yet original look. All RE49 shoes are handmade in the RE49 studio in Gonnar, Udine, Italy. As early as 1949, Valentino Masolini began recycling scrap fabric and discarded military uniforms to make shoes. In 2021, his great-grandson, Nicola Masolini, repurposed fabrics, beach umbrellas, beach loungers and sails to create shoes. This is how RE49 was born in a small village in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region: the most sustainable footwear brand in the world, producing unique Made in Italy products according to a circular economy model. "In our atelier, the art and experience of shoemaking is being passed down through four generations. Our shoes have been made here with precision and passion since 1949. We believe in the unlimited capacity to reinvent ourselves and the world. Therefore, our mission is to protect the planet and shape a better future for our children. That's why in 2021, we completely redefined our business, moving away from traditional leather shoe production, and now produce shoes with recyclable, recycled, animal-free and vegan materials.
