Make no mistake; this trend may look simple but it’s definitely not boring. By combining different textures like transparent chiffon over basic cotton, or using various weighted fabrics together like silk and leather, you can carry off the ultra-chic white-on-white trend with fashionable ease.
White has always been the guiding anchor for every colour trend – as featured in collections all year round. As well as being a safe colour that everyone can wear, it pretty much goes with every other colour in the palette. This season however, white is the main hue many designers are focusing on, and with that births a whole new variety of whites to covet.
Nina Ricci and Ellie Saab were two such designers who traded technicolour palettes for neutral ones, comprising white and cream textures – featuring barely-there lace dresses under a more substantial set of woollen coats, resulting in looks that are all-white, crisp and very clean. Accessories too received the whitening treatment this season. Catwalks paved the way for PVC white loafers and peep-toe ankle boot wedges – two footwear trends that have gotten us all cooing over in the office! You too can get the all-white trend right by playing with layers of different weighted materials. Take your cue from Oscar De La Renta's SS14 show, which featured crochet, brilliant white calf-skimming dresses, over very short body suits – almost resembling ’50s Saint Tropez bathing suits. Sport this look and transform a beach cover-up into the perfect Summer party dress.
This Summer, we see the cool, crisp, non-colour look leave the beaches of Saint Tropez and arrive into the real world! Make the look your own with must-have accessories including cat-eye sunnies – the perfect shape for any face, and swap bold necklaces for statement cuffs to add a touch of divine glamour to a simple white tee and jeans ensemble.

If you wore pedal pushers, rented videos, dreamt of being part of the Sailor Moon crew, had scrunchies in your hair, plastic chokers around your neck, and most importantly, still know the words to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air opening credit rap, then it is safe to assume that you grew up in the ’90s. The Spice Girls were our goddesses. If you didn’t want to be them then you had a crush on them, and if anyone dissed them you’d have whipped out your girl power quicker than Peter Andre could take his top off!
The SS14 shows were flooded with ’90s references; from patterned leggings, halter necks, the two-piece and the re-named flatforms. Designers have majorly flashed-back to the ’90s, bringing checked shirts and oversized trousers back onto our radar, and boy have they done well. Jill Sander's cropped tops and Balmain’s double denim had us all running to our lofts to pull out old garbs from yesteryear we thought we’d never see again. Not forgetting the super slinky, lingerie-style dresses, worthy of a Sex In The City, Sarah Jessica Parker tribute.
The ’90s were a time when you could pretty much wear whatever you wanted – throw on your boyfriend's oversized tee over a pair of pop-socks and Dr. Martens, and you’d be the coolest kid in town. Now in the new millennium, you can give that look an update by adding a leather skirt to your boyfriend tee and slip on your slinkiest heels whilst rocking last night’s bed head. If you’re a little more daring and have the abs to rock it, cut a tee into a cropped top and team it with a pair of ripped denim boyfriend jeans and double strap Birkenstocks. Top it off with a pair of white round sunglasses – the perfect subtle nod to the ’90s trend – or opt for the comfy white tee and denim dungaree duo to see you through the weekend.
